RALLY OBEDIENCE

Rally Obedience is one of the newest dog sports.   In this sport, the dog and handler independently complete the course of different heeling and stationary exercises.   The team is judged on their ability to perfom the tasks listed on the course.   In Rally Obedience, communication between the dog and handler is encouraged.

The American Kennel Club (AKC), the United Kennel Club (UKC) and the Association for Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) sanction Rally Obedience Trials.  Although the rules vary slightly between the organizations, the philosphy and basic procedures are consistent.  Prior to competing, the handler is given the opportunity to walk the course without their dog.  Individual dog and handler teams then run the course where they are timed and judged on their ability to perform the assigned stations.  All teams begin competition with the dog on leash and can progress to off leash heeling, jumping, retrieving  and more advanced heeling exercises

Classes and competitions are held at the Bella Vista Training Center.  Please see the obedience class schedule for the next class session.  Upcoming APDT Trials are listed under events.
